Eco Friendly, Sustainable Rooms |

Our homes account for approximately 27% of the UK carbon emissions which is why we ensure that each building utilises materials conscientiously chosen by our designers to ensure your garden room will be as sustainable as possible, with the freedom of choice to create your own unique space. We have used as inspiration the Code for Sustainable Homes issued by the Department for Communities and Local Government. This document highlights the importance of reducing CO2 emissions during the production process of components, but significantly it considers the thermal efficiency of the finished product to be key when specifying components and materials. All our timber comes from sustainable sources with a chain of custody supported by either FSC or PEFC certification. The thermal efficiency of our finished product is better than 95% of UK homes which means the need for heating is minimal. There is of course a need for a heat source and we have specified as standard an energy efficient radiant convector heater with thermostatic controls. You can choose to upgrade to any heat source you wish and we regularly provide air source heat pumps, electric under-floor heating or full radiant electric heating solutions. Our partner in sustainable energy, Markwell Green Energy, can advise on fitting ground source heat pumps, PV panels or any of your renewable technology requirements. All lighting uses either low energy bulbs or LED's which minimise the amount of electricity you will use. We specify timber frames because this gives you the freedom to choose from our standard rigid insulation or upgrade to truly sustainable materials such as sheeps wool or hemp insualtion.
